Tetsuro Fukuhara and SPACE DANCE & DESIGN MUSEUM /

Tetsuro Fukuhara started his activity as a Japanese Butoh Choreographer and he created “SPACE DANCE” with the concept of “Dance & Design” through the experience of doubting the social position of art. In 2001, at the United Nations in New York he held “SPACE DANCE Performance” and “Kids SPACE DANCE“, and in 2004-2006, at Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency(JAXA) in Tokyo he held a joint research as a representative researcher about “GRAVITY” and “BODY” together with the architects, designers, media art curator, cognitive psychologists, robot developers, brain scientists, astrobiologists. After that, his book “VISION of BODY” was published and he held a memorial lecture “APAROS – AI Robot as My Alter Ego” at Copernicus Science Center in Warsaw in 2018.

Based on his activities as a SPACE DANCE Artist, it is important to explore and express from several sides of “BODY“, “ART“, “EDUCATION“, “SCIENCE“, “DESIGN“, “ARCHITECTURE“, “STORY“, and “AI“, so his activities are multi-dimensional.

Currently, based on SD2 GALLERY, together with the members, he is operating “SPACE DANCE & DESIGN MUSEUM” on the internet and preparing to open a real museum.

SPACE DANCE” is a project pursuing a new dance expression, as well as a project in order to create a design after a dance with the concept of “DANCE & DESIGN“.

In 2006, when we held “KIDS SPACE DANCE” in the gymnasium of Hoya Elementary School in collaboration with the Tamarokuto Science Museum in Tokyo, the children were amazed at Space Tube Experience shaking the earth and made them go crazy. We learned that there are new possibilities that are not yet known to the world. After that, “KIDS SPACE DANCE” toured the world with overwhelming popularity, also we participated “KIDS SCIENCE EXPOSITION – SPACE TUNNEL” in Kyoto, Japan in August 2019 supported by INAMORI FOUNDATION and produced by NHK Educational and it was a great success to get 7,500 kids & parents in 2 days. We could receive a critique from the supervisor of this event Terufumi Ono, director of Mie Prefectural Museum, that “the physical experience will be important enough to become an information society and Space Tube Experience has become a valuable opportunity for it”.

Due to the rapid progress of the information society, this trend that physical experience is required will be accelerated. With these experiences as the starting point, we are elaborating a “Plan of SPACE DANCE & DESIGN MUSEUM” as a place to realize the physical experiences that the progress of the information society and the advent of the space age naturally demand.

SPACE DANCE & DESIGN MUSEUM will be operated by the following 4 departments. Artists, designers, scientists, engineers, educators, researchers, editors, children, and the elderly participate as creators of content in this museum. Then, this museum will be a place for creation, experience, and appreciation, as well as a place to bring up new talents. At the same time, this museum will operate as an independent organization, with the design output it produces sold and without financial support from others.

●”KIDS SPACE DANCE” / 『
●”SPACE DESIGN SCHOOL” / 『
●”SPACE DANCE SCHOOL” / 『
●”SPACE CULTURE” / 『

Specifically, we will search for a city where we can hold “SPACE DANCE & DESIN 7 days” on a regular basis, and open and operate a “SPACE DANCE & DESIN MISEUM” in that city.
